Work opportunities circulated to members recently are detailed below.

June 2010: – Finding the Right Course
A consultant is required to advise an individual who is seeking an appropriate MA course in the UK. He is currently based in Thailand, has a BBA qualification from India and an MBA in Marketing from the Assumption University in Bangkok. He is seeking a one-year course in the UK which will increase his opportunity of gaining employment in this country in a management role.
May 2010: – Helping teachers teach in the Gulf
An international school in a Gulf country requires a consultant to deliver an annual workshop and seminar programme for its teaching staff. The programme involves enhancing classroom delivery techniques with the aim of getting the best from the students and improving their opportunities to enter universities worldwide. Specific areas include topics such as: supervision and evaluation techniques; becoming a Quality Assurance Review team member; fun with interactive learning and motivating and working with students and parents.

The School is considering conducting a teaching skills review of its staff. This may be conducted prior to set-up and delivery of the workshops on the advice of, and delivered by, the trainer.
April 2010: – A Place in the Sun
Three positions are available on a beautiful, small Caribbean island. A live-in nanny is required to look after a four-year-old girl, who needs daily exercises to improve her coordination and her concentration. An experienced teacher with senior management experience is needed for a 10-pupil English-language primary school. The third position is also for a primary teacher to work under the guidance of a senior teacher. All jobs include accommodation and flights, and there is plenty of time to snorkel in the Barrier Reef.
April 2010: – Consultants to advise on ICT Projects
A company involved in ICT projects related to the Building Schools for the Future programme is seeking educational consultants to work with its technology consultants and provide expertise on the UK 11-16 National Curriculum. Candidates must be fully conversant with the National Curriculum’s legal requirements and have a strong interest in e-learning tools and platforms.
April 2010: – SEN school needs pre-registration audit of premises and policies
A London-based not-for-profit company about to register with DCSF as an independent school (SEN) would like advice on the suitability of its school premises and policies. The organisation specialises in supporting young people who have been excluded from local authority schools, particularly those with statements of special education need as a result of emotional and behavioural difficulties or moderate learning difficulties.
April 2010: – Helping develop education in Iraq
A European consultancy seeks consultants to work on a project that is part of the Third Emergency Education Project in Iraq financed by the World Bank. The project involves helping the Ministry of Education in Iraq to: develop an in-service teacher-training programme; build capacity in curriculum development; develop a manual of school standards and design, and produce a school mapping and investment plan
April 2010: – Leading a team of education consultants
A large international consultancy firm is looking for an experienced consultant to lead and develop its strategic business in education. S/he would be responsible for developing and marketing the firm’s offering to the education sector, selling the offer to clients and winning business and initially, where appropriate, carrying out assignments. A basic salary of up to £60k is offered, plus performance-related bonuses and other benefits.
April 2010: – Help needed with Ofqual submission
An Irish organisation offering an accounting-related qualification needs a consultant to help it with its submission to Ofqual, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation. The successful candidate will be assisted by the organisation’s internal project team.
March 2010: – ICT education consultants needed
A Lithuanian company seeking to bid in a public procurement tender organised by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education seeks two experts in innovative learning (‘basically ICT’)at the primary level. Candidates should have experience of: delivering seminars on this area in at least two countries; and of approving, reviewing or the certification of at least one research article, module or methodology.
March 2010: – Advice on university entrance
A mature candidate with professional qualifications as an independent financial adviser and international experience in this field seeks a consultant to advise her on options for university entrance in September 2011, including possibly to a US university.
February 2010: – School placement needed for child requiring occupational therapy
A father planning to relocate to London seeks a consultant to advise on a placement in a London school for his son, who will be five in June. Must have experience with occupational therapy services.
February 2010: – Help with paperwork for international college
A new international college in London planning to open soon seeks a consultant to help with the paperwork necessary to obtain BAC accreditation and the Home Office UKBA licence. Previous experience in opening a private international college would be preferable.
February 2010: – Special needs appeal help required
A London parent is seeking help in making an appeal case regarding her five-year-old daughter in order to secure her a place at one of two schools in the local area, both of which are full. The girl has exceptional social needs and is currently seeing Child and Mental Health Services.
February 2010: – Head of Schools Effectiveness
An interim recruitment specialist is recruiting for a Head of Schools Effectiveness at an East Midlands local authority. Ex- teachers/headteachers who also have some Local Authority experience would be preferable. The job is on an interim basis, and would be three days per week (minimum). The job involves:
  • Leading and managing the team of Standards & Effectiveness (SET) advisers
  • Quality-assuring the work of the SET team and secondary SIPs/NCAs
  • Developing aspects of the Building a 21st century schools system White Paper e.g. World Class Primaries
  • With the Interim Deputy Director, refocusing and restructuring the advisers team
  • Representing the Learning division as a Head of Service.
The rate of pay would be up to £800 per day.
February 2010: – SEN consultant
A local authority needs a Special Education Needs consultant to work on-site at a local government client on an interim basis. The remuneration is excellent, and the client wants someone to start straight away.
February 2010: – Consultant to set up programmes for international college
A rapidly expanding international college seeks a consultant to help develop a project aimed at improving professional and degree programme and at obtaining various affiliations, as well as meeting compliance requirements. The work involves assisting the CEO/Board in identifying educational partners and in then exploring such partnerships. The budget for this is approximately £10,000 and the task is to be completed within four months.
February 2010: – Project in Cameroon
A partner in a consortium for Lot 11 of the EU Framework Contract 'Beneficiaries 2009' requires an education strategist/education planner for public administrations for a project in Cameroon. The consultant would need to speak French and English and to have previous African experience. The role would be for 55 days over three months, starting in March 2010.
January 2010: – Guidance for Parent
A parent is appealing for a consultant to advise her on options for her 16-year-old son to return to education. He has poor GCSE results and his Building and Construction apprenticeship came to a premature end due to difficulties with the business. She is prepared to pay for private education.
January 2010: – Consultant Needed to Answer Email Enquiries
A company supplying a web-based communication system for the education sector requires a consultant to answer email enquiries on specific education-related matters, whether from the company or from its customers. Among other features, the system allows teachers to communicate with parents and students via SMS and email.
January 2010: – Commercial Manager for Schools Organisation
An organisation with an expanding network of schools in the North East of England seeks a Commercial Manager to generate income from commercial, community and educational use out of school hours. The successful candidate will, inter alia, be expected to develop a subscription-based alumni society and develop the organisation’s sites as venues for adult education services. A salary of c£60k is offered
January 08 2010: – Ofsted advice for Saturday supplementary school
A Saturday supplementary school for primary-aged children with centres in North London is looking into becoming Ofsted-registered and approved, and needs advice on this process. It has around 130 enrolled pupils attending its sites for two or four hours each week in term time. It also runs a daily summer school programme which pupils attend for four-five hours a day, five days a week for a duration of two or three weeks. The school has a part-time staff of about nine qualified and non-qualified tutors.
