SEC North East regional group – Meeting Report

May 5 2009

The SEC's North East group shared valuable information on grant availability, associative contacts, behaviour modification and developing the role of mentors in secondary schools. The meeting was held at The Village Hotel in Shiremoor, North Tyneside, on 29th April 2009.

"These meetings are a valued opportunity for networking and sharing information with any local people who work as established consultants or are interested in becoming involved in consultancy work," says SEC national committee member Barbara Roberts. "All with an interest are welcomed."

The North East group meeting featured a report from the national committee meeting held at Connaught Hall earlier in April. The current national agenda is extremely developmental as new ideas are rapidly being developed and implemented. Feedback centred on website and marketing strategies being introduced to increase the profile and membership of the society. The idea of outsourcing such work as PR and marketing was explored at length.

Each member of the North East group shared her or his interests, new ventures and recent activity, with the group inviting questions.

Following further discussion on the format and content of future meetings, and the identification of the real needs of members, the meeting ended with a discussion about the forthcoming SEC conference in November with some offers and suggestions for themes and presenters, which will be fed back to the next national committee meeting.

The next North East group meeting will be held at The Village Hotel at 6.30 p.m. on 24th June. New members will be very welcome: please contact Barbara Roberts on 0191 510 1318, 07980 771818 or at barbara@aidanconsulting.co.uk Barbara would also be pleased to share her experiences with others interested in starting a local group in their area.
