Consultant Spotlight
As an established practitioner experienced in course and resource design and delivery; qualification writing and evaluation; and centre monitoring, Caroline Morris is perfectly placed in her current role – which includes conducting monitoring and development work on the new 14-19 Diploma. .
Caroline has been involved from the beginning of the project, developing the qualification, writing resource material and sample assessment material, and bringing her wealth of experience as a verifier and scrutineer to help ensure The Diploma does what it says on the tin – providing a mix of classroom teaching and hands-on experience, preparing young people for their next step whether it be in the area of education; training or work.
It's high-pressure and fast-moving, but that suits Caroline who has always lived in the professional fast lane. She believes in taking opportunities when they arise, and from her first post with MENCAP to her current role, she has always strived to make the most of training and learning opportunities. Despite a very full-time job she is currently halfway through a PhD at the University of Worcester, studying Education relating to NVQs in the Health and Social Care Sector.
Caroline also has long-standing links with the Open University and still has a role with them as an Associate Lecturer, writing, and mapping qualifications.
In the past Caroline has worked as an external verifier for Edexcel, is still chief verifier for OCR and is currently an internal verifier for Matrix; and works on policy development and review. While some people might think that this could become tedious, she has never found it so. The brisk pace of her work and the need to constantly prioritise her workload and meet deadlines has always ensured that she never gets stale.
It is one of the aspects of working as a consultant that she particularly relishes: the freedom to schedule her own workload and the challenge of delivering a high quality product or service to a tight deadline. She also enjoys being able to keep a handle on what's going on in the sector.
Caroline joined the SEC because she felt there was a natural synergy between her professional life and the Society and that it would continue to be of benefit in the future in terms of keeping abreast of developments in education.
She is married, has a 21-year-old son who is a chef and shares many of her interests, particularly spectating at rallies and travelling. She is also training for her pilot's licence.
The 2010 SEC Conference takes place on Friday 26th November at the RSA in central London.
