Consultant of the Month

Having spent the past few years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) as an education consultant, Jan Morgan has recently started her own business and is working as ... an education consultant!

This isn’t the first time Jan has worked on her own, as she spent four years as an independent consultant before joining PwC. Before that she worked for the Open University and its subsidiary, Open University Worldwide Ltd, where she managed the OU’s international collaborative partnerships, particularly those in Central and Eastern Europe. It was a fascinating time to work with those countries - shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Friendships with many contacts from the CEE countries still remain and Jan has recently returned from visiting her Hungarian friends.

During her time at the OU, the team won the Queen’s Award for Export (1997), which was a significant achievement for an academic institution at the time.

After many happy years with the OU, Jan took the decision to leave and set up on her own – the decision prompted by the monotony of the daily 100-mile commute! Over the next four years, Jan had a variety of roles within the education and skills sector, including working on the DfES national training programme for Connexions Personal Advisors and running an Advantage West Midlands-funded Basic Skills project. Jan also worked for Coventry University, setting up the regional e-repository – which was funded through the Government Office for the West Midlands.

During her time with PwC, Jan worked on many projects on behalf of Becta, including the National Digital Infrastructure and the Schools Interoperability Framework – a project aimed at getting different Management Information Systems to communicate with each other automatically.

Jan also worked with universities, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the DfES – subsequently DCSF and DIUS. Jan also worked with the Training and Education directorates of other Government Departments.

Since leaving PwC Jan has specialised in the Post-16 sector, 14-19 diplomas, ICT/e-learning, Management Information Systems, Games Technologies and Learning Technologies.

Jan has four children, although only the youngest is still at home. The oldest is an actor who happily lists his one A level failure on his resume, but fails to mention the A levels he did achieve! Jan did have an allotment for some time, long before allotments became fashionable, but gave it up a couple of years ago....just as they became trendy.

Jan’s (work-related) passion is to broker links between various and often disparate organisations, departments and bodies to ensure knowledge, experience and good practice is shared across all aspects of education and training.
