SEC Conference 2007

The Way We Work: excellence in consulting

Paul Perlin

Paul Perlin has been a friend and supporter of the Society of Education Consultants for many years.

After leaving school at 16, he went straight into Articles with a medium-sized City accountancy practice and then took a number of jobs in small practices. "This enabled me to learn the ropes, which led to me setting up my own practice some 25+ years ago," he says.

Through organic growth, Paul Perlin & Co, based in Finchley, London, is now a two-partner general practice, with more than 12 staff, a separate bookkeeping bureau (Balance Books Ltd, employing four staff) and payroll bureau (Balance Limited, three staff). The practice has about 450 clients, ranging from small sole traders to audits of quite large companies and charities.

"I spend most of my time advising clients on business development issues, start-ups and reviewing year-end accounts, and I see most of the potential new clients in person."
