Clio Whittaker :: Ampersand Learning Ltd

Expertise

Ampersand Learning Ltd was started by Clio Whittaker in 2007 in order to bring high-quality family learning services to a wider range of schools, organisations, parents and children. Ampersand aims to help schools build good relationships with parents and to help parents to support their children’s learning. We do this by delivering high-quality workshops and courses, and by creating resources that support and enable school staff to develop their confidence and expertise in working with parents.

Clio has been involved with parents and schools for more than 12 years. Convinced by her experience as a parent governor and parent representative in the London Borough of Camden that children's achievements at school are powerfully affected by the extent to which parents are involved with their learning at home, she trained as a family learning tutor. She then taught at the Parent House in Islington and in many primary schools in Camden, Tower Hamlets and the City of London. She also has experience of working with the DfES, local education authorities and museums. While employed by a national charity, Clio trained volunteers to support children with reading in more than 30 primary schools. She is the author of the family guide to the British Museum.

Clio holds a degree in Chinese (SOAS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Lifelong Learning (Birkbeck College).
