Judy (Judith) Larsen
Skills and Experience
Judy has extensive experience in education across all sectors, including primary, secondary and university levels in both the UK and Australia. As a Commonwealth Relations Trust Scholar Judy undertook PhD studies at the Institute of Education writing her thesis in Change and Innovation in Secondary Schools. She has experience as a the foundation principal of a new and innovative secondary school in Western Australia and was vice principal of School of Isolated and Distance Education in Western Australia.
Judy has also undertaken key roles in managing systemic change projects in Australia and the UK. She undertook research and wrote and managed the First Steps Literacy Project (for primary schools) and the Stepping Out Literacy Project (for secondary schools).
Throughout the last eight years she has gained experience in the UK education sector through her PhD studies, her academic teaching at the Institute of Education and freelance consultancy and research in primary and secondary schools and Local Education Authorities. As an Associate Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP she has undertaken consultancy and research for the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in areas relating to teachers' and headteachers' workloads, paraprofessionals in education and most recently, the Behaviour Improvement Programme (BIP) and a five-year longitudinal evaluation of City Academies.
Judy has extensive experience with the BIP and in addition to working with 12 LEAs across the country she has worked as a Specialist Consultant for the DfES on aspects of the project. Her work in supporting LEAs, BIP Co-ordinators and schools with the implementation of BIP has provided a range of opportunities to see first hand, how BIP and other key strategies are helping to support the implementation of Children's Trusts and integrated children's services as well as improvements in achievement.
