Pete Hrekow :: Education and Management Consultant

Pete Hrekow specialises in improving behaviour in schools and developing provision for children and young people, who have needs in the area of social, emotional and behavioural development (SEBD, BESD).

Pete has over 20 years experience of teaching children and young people with behaviour needs in a range of settings. He has managed a pupil referral unit, led a multi-disciplinary behaviour support team and was headteacher of a special school for pupils with severe and complex SEBD needs.

Since becoming a consultant in 1997 and a director of Dreyfus Training & Development in 1999, Pete has led and contributed to a wide range of contracts from individual school level to central Government research and development projects.

Pete trains teachers to develop their skills in improving pupil behaviour and understanding and meeting SEBD needs. He delivers training for the National Union of Teachers to around 600 teachers each year and has been doing so since 2001. Pete has also delivered courses for SENJIT at London’s Institute of Education since 1992.

Pete’s consultancy work includes coaching of individual teachers and advice and support for mainstream and special schools, and pupil referral units (short stay schools) in developing their policies and systems to improve behaviour. He has a particular interest in helping schools and alternative education providers in their assessment of needs and development of curricular responses to meet those needs.

Pete has worked with a number of local authorities to improve their provision to include pupils with behavioural needs and to reduce exclusion from school. This has involved reviewing existing provision, strategic development of new services and advising on effective multi-agency collaboration.
