About Joanna Goodman

Dr Joanna Goodman is an educationalist with a vast experience of school leadership, both in maintained and independent sectors. She has worked at every key stage in education. She is an English and SEND specialist. She graduated with a Doctor in Education degree from University of London, King’s College London, where she researched the role of assessment in improving learning outcomes. Her assessment expertise is internationally recognized and she has been widely published in the UK and abroad, including peer-reviewed publications. She has worked in collaboration with CEM, University of Durham, on the benefits of standardised testing. Joanna is passionate about education and learning, and about sharing her expertise. She has supported numerous schools in an advisory capacity and through consultative school or department reviews, including policy reviews together with advice on their effective implementation. She has presented papers at many international conferences. She is a Trustee and a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. In addition to developing school leadership, curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning, performance management, facilitating compliant policy development and implementation, including safeguarding, and advising on managing change, Joanna has school governance experience. She is a member of two NICE committees responsible for developing clinical guidelines aimed at improving outcomes for children and young people. She also works for the the Department of Education (DfE) in an advisory capacity, in particular with regard to developing new qualifications.

Having gained experience of evaluating schools as an Ofsted and ISI inspector in order to make inspection judgments, Joanna now works in partnership with schools on developing their processes, supporting them in their work, as required, and providing specific feedback for further improvement. The focus of her consultations is on improving young peoples’ outcomes by maximizing institutional capabilities for expanding their learning cultures beyond the bounds of any expected accountability measures. Her consultative reviews are aimed at adding value, regardless of the schools’ profiles, and her work is based on professional recommendations.
