About Mal Krishnasamy
I am an education consultant, coach and trainer specialising in Leadership Development & Coaching. I am a former senior leader of ten years in a variety of London schools leading teaching & Learning & CPD. I have had a pivotal role in several Senior Leadership Teams to bring about school improvement.
My vision for the schools is to develop a learning-centred culture with the entire staff workforce, including teachers and educational support staff, giving the same attention to the design, delivery and monitoring of their professional development as is given to the teaching and learning of students.
As an ardent advocate of coaching, I have introduced a coaching culture in the schools I have worked at, which has led to dramatic improvements in teacher development. I now do this as part of my consultancy work. MalCPD is an approved ILM Provider of coaching courses, as a result, those that complete my coaching courses can obtain an ILM recognised certificate.
I am a passionate advocate of both staff & student well-being. I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of training staff in SMSC which supports the development of the whole child and has a proven impact on their academic progress. As such, I am now an independent SMSC consultant at the Citizenship Foundation and a key member of the Steering Group for the National SMSC Quality Mark.
I also devise & facilitate leadership development training for Senior & Middle Leaders and am currently coaching several middle leaders as part of the Diverse Leaders Programme and senior leaders as part of Women Leading in Education Coaching Pledge. As an independent facilitator for Leadership Colab I also facilitate the NPQML/SL courses at the Institute of Education.
I am also a Regional Leader for WomenEd a grassroots gender equality movement that connects aspiring, emerging and serving women leaders in education.
I have a proven track record of leadership and management in the classroom, as a faculty manager and as a senior leader. Indeed, I have been a senior leader for almost 10 years leading Teaching & Learning and CPD. I have had a pivotal role in several Senior Leadership Teams to bring about school improvement.
I have devised, developed and delivered INSET on a variety of teaching and learning strategies including national priorities. As Professional Mentor at several schools, I have devised, developed and delivered a comprehensive programme of induction and continuing support for newly appointed staff and trainee teachers such as School Direct participants, Teach Firsts and NQTs across the Trust. Due to my work as a Professional Mentor, I was asked to present at the Teach First London Region Mentor Conference. The Mentor Handbook I created was used across the London Region & my professional development programme was hailed as an exemplar model. OfSTED inspectors who were inspecting Teach First and Brunel University on separate occasions in 2011/12 were also impressed with the materials I produced and the training I devised for participants. Participants who evaluated my sessions said that they were 'relevant, practical and inspiring'.
As an ardent advocate of coaching, I have introduced a coaching culture in the schools I have worked at, which has led to dramatic improvements in teacher development. I have run training for Teaching Assistants on a range of teaching and learning techniques to enhance their skills so that they have the potential to become teachers. I have facilitated the training of middle and senior leaders on the NPQML and NPQSL and have coached many who have said they have found my experience and support invaluable. Overall, feedback by participants of my training sessions/programmes have said that they were 'relevant, practical and inspiring'.
At the schools I have worked at, I have developed a rigorous approach to monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching through standardisation and by linking it closely to the progress pupils made over time. I also devised differentiated CPD workshops based on performance management needs.
I have written many policies including a marking & presentation, homework, Teaching & Learning, SRE, PSHE, Drugs, Citizenship, RE and behaviour policies. I have also written the Teaching & Learning section of SEFs, written reports for the Governing Body on the impact of Teaching & Learning policies, presented to staff, SLT, Governing bodies and OfSTED on Teaching & Learning priorities. I have also written sections of the evidence for the Inclusion Quality Mark, Leading Parent Partnership Award and the Applied Learning & Specialist College status.
MalCPD is an approved Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Centre. These two MalCPD courses have been verified and endorsed by the ILM:
1. An Introduction to Coaching Skills
2. Essential Coaching Skills for School Leaders
On completion of any of these two courses will gain the participant an ILM Recognised Certificate.
